Climate Readiness
The primary changes that will be noticed in northern MN are intensity of weather events and increased wildfires. Sustained higher wind speeds, larger amounts of percipitation during a storm, hot and cold spells will be hotter/colder, increased health and property risks from wildfire/smoke. Although climate will combine with other factors to influence gradual change in other areas of the environment, such as water conditions and wildlife migration/breeding, are beyond the scope of our mission.
Wild Fires
This LINK will bring you to a valuable resource to help reduce the risk of property damage due to wildfires. The program provides assistance to homeowners in a variety of ways based on property owner preferences.
Air purifier - smoke from wildfires, both regional and national, pass through our area and cause air quality issues at an increasing rate. The most carefree way to improve air quality is with an air purifier. To increase the likelihood of long term effectiveness and reduce lifetime expense, we recommend a filter-less version that can be easily cleaned at home.
Storm Shelter
In the event of a severe weather event make sure that you have a safe storm shelter. FEMA approved models are available for purchase that can be delivered and installed for homeowners without a basement. Multifamily units are also available for rental facilitites.
Be sure to have an evacuation plan if you live in an area that could possibly flood. Areas that have not flooded before but are near water sources are now at risk of flooding due to the increased amount of percipitation that falls during storms.
